Machine is History
2019, Cattle Depot Artist Village Unit 12 & Open Space, Hong Kong
In the long history, countless details often remain unrecorded, slipping through the cracks of human documentation. Leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI), we can now rediscover these lost information and present history through a fresh lens, offering alternative perspectives that challenge conventional narratives.
This art series utilizes advanced machine learning techniques to reconstruct the facial features of notable figures from history. By transforming two-dimensional photographs into detailed three-dimensional facial models, AI acts not just as a tool for visual recreation but as a medium for historical reinterpretation.
Through this process, AI meticulously analyzes each photograph, discerning subtle facial cues to construct 3D geometries. This technology does more than merely replicate physical appearances, it bridges temporal gaps, allowing us to engage with historical figures in a more dynamic and immediate way, enabling these personalities to emerge from the shadows of history, reinterpreted and revitalized.
This project underscores the potential of AI to not only preserve and record history but to actively participate in its reformation. Viewers are invited to explore a reimagined past, where history is not only seen but is also experienced through the innovative lens of contemporary technology.
